EXT. COMPOUND: Nightly duties are under way.
SLEEPING CUBICLE: Palmer and Childs both in their own cots watching a small television. The show is a tape of an American TV game show.
Palmer gets up and extracts the cassette. He injects another game show.
PALMER: I know how this one ends.
Childs is stretched out in the other cot and is beckoning for the joint Palmer just lit.
REC ROOM: Nauls and Clark are playing a game of pool. Windows sits off to the side thumbing through a magazine. Bennings, Norris and Garry are engaged in a card game.
Bennings is about to play a card when he feels something under the table. He yelps and looks. It is the dog.
BENNINGS: Clark, will you put this mutt with the others where he belongs?!
CLARK: Yea, okay.
CUT TO - TUNNEL: Clark leads the dog through the long, cold tunnel toward the kennel. He unlatches the door to the kennel and coaches him in.
CLARK: Go ahead.
CLARK: Go ahead, what are you waiting for?
KENNEL: About twenty feet long, five feet wide. Poorly lit. Cramped with dogs. Some of them sleeping or lounging. Others curious of their new companion, sniffing, panting. The new dog watches them calmly, silently. Completely still. He stares at them. A beat.
The dogs are aware of something. They seem a bit confused, uncomfortable. The new dog continues to stare. Sitting rigidly, unnaturally still. His eyes dead, lusterless black spheres. Clark latching the door behind him, turns out the light, then leaves.
Bewildered, a few dogs start to pace. As if sensing something: a portent. A danger. But so odd. They begin a soft, purring growl. The new dog remains a statue. The growling builds.
More dogs begin to pace. Nervously. Faster, encircling. The new dog's body is now convulsing and bleeding from the jaws.
Suddenly it's whole face peels back like a banana, a grotesque visual. The kennel roars.
Now looking more like bizarre creature and less dog, the bloodied body mutates, sprouting tenacles and tube-like tendons.
The other dogs, emitting hisses, snarls. Driving them into a frenzy. Barks. Growls. More frenetic pacing. The din escalating.
Riddled with holes, dozens of blood-red tenacles shoot from it's body.
A dog in the corner is desparately chewing a hole in the kennel's chain link to create an escape from this nightmare.
Spider or crab-like legs begin erupting from the mutilated canine.
The creature shoots a stream of liquid at the dog in the corner. The frightened dog darts back and forth trying to escape the onslaught.
