MacReady and Copper load up their find and head back to Outpost 31.

The chopper fights against the heavy winds and lands safely. The others arrive to help them carry the charred remains.

The dog watches them intently through a window.

INT. INFIRMARY: The men remove the covering from the contents they placed on a slab. Displayed on the slab is what appears to be the corpse of a man.

COPPER: We found this.

FUCHS (whispers): Jesus Christ.

The men grimace. Badly charred. What is left of the trousers and shoes of the bottom torso are ripped and split, as if his legs and feet had burst from the inside. Blair, sickened but fascinated, coughing/gagging from the stench.

His upper body is an almost undecipherable gnarled mass of protoplasmic mush. The shirt has been ripped and lies shredded in the tar-like mess.

COPPER: Blair, I'd like you to start an autopsy right away.

Tendon-like appendages are wrapped around the carcass and sticking up and out in odd postures. One is wrapped around the body's left leg.

The head is strangely disfigured and looks larger than normal. It is situated not on its shoulders but near the abdomen.

MacReady stares at the bloody abomination, then looks at the other men, no one speaks.

The dog is in the entrance way watching, completely still.

CUT TO - COMMUNICATIONS ROOM: Garry enters and sees that Windows has nodded off in front of his receiver. His headgear is still on.

Garry walks over and turns up the volume, the static jolting Windows awake.

WINDOWS: AGHHHH!

GARRY: You reach anybody yet?

WINDOWS: Reach anybody? We're a thousand miles from nowhere, man. And it's going to get a hell of a lot worse before it gets better.

GARRY: Well, stick to it, Windows, stick to it.

INT. LAB: larger than most of the other rooms and well-equipped. Dr. Copper is performing an autopsy on the Norwegian intruder, killed early that morning.

Dr. Copper pulls off his gloves.

COPPER: Nothing wrong with this one. Physiologically, anyway. No drugs... alcohol. Nothing.

Fuchs is inspecting the shredded clothing found with the deformed body.

Blair is performing the autopsy on the deformed body.

BLAIR: Well, what we got here is what appears to be anyway, a normal set of internal organs.

BLAIR: Heart, lungs, kidney, liver, intestines. Seems to be normal.

CUT TO: A close up on the face of the charred remains.
