As the group tends to Bobby, the MP goes into more violent convulsions, falling onto the floor. His body seems to disintegrate as hundreds of of insects come pouring out of his back. Mike turns to run, but right into a creature that shoots the acid web in Mike's face. His face starts smoking as he's choking to death. Nothing they can do for Mike, so they grab Bobby and hurry out of there.
Irene turns and is now facing a creature hanging from the ceiling. She holds up a spray can of 'Bug Smash' and ignites the spray with a lighter. The creature goes up in flames. Dozens of creatures swarm over Mike's body. As they reach the exit, the largest of the creatures blocks their path. Ollie fires but he's out of ammo.
Dan impales the creature with his wood spear, casting off it's body. Bobby dies before they can make it out, so they are forced to leave his body there. The surviving members flee with the supplies while hundreds of creatures swarm Bobby's body.
They make it back to the grocery store and despite their efforts, the burn victim still dies from his injuries. Meanwhile, Carmody is spewing more of her religious rantings and her followers are growing in numbers, including the frightened Jim, his mind has snapped since the pharmacy ordeal.
Mrs. Carmody is preaching to her 'cult' and they're repeating expiation.
Ollie: Welcome to Sesame Street. Today's word is 'expiation'.
David decides to go look for the soldiers to see what they know about the mist. Two are missing but they find Wayne Jessup sitting in an aisle, looking hopeless.
David: What do you know about this mist?
Wayne: I don't know, man, I've got nothing to do with it.
David: That's not what the MP said in the pharmacy before the spiders came out of his skin.
Jim notices David's group heading to the dock. They search the dock landing and are shocked to see the two soldiers committed suicide by hanging themselves. David angrily presses Jessup for answers. Frightened, Jessup turns and is now facing . . .
Jim: We got you now, you sorry son of a bitch!
Jim shoves him into the store and reveals to Carmody and her followers about the Arrowhead project. Carmody bullies Jessup to talk . . .
Wayne: I heard stuff.
Carmody: Stuff...
Wayne: Yeah, we all heard stuff! Like uh, how they... they thought that there were other dimensions. You know, other... other worlds all around us, and how they wanted to try to make a window, you know, so they can look through and see what's on the other side.
Carmody: Well maybe your window turned out to be a door. Didn't it?
Wayne: Not my door! It's the scientists!
Carmody [sarcastically]: Oh, the scientists.
Wayne: Yes, the scientists! They must've ripped a hole through by accident. That's how their world keeps on spilling through into ours. That's what Donaldson was saying right before he killed himself. I didn't understand half of it. . . It ain't my fault!
Carmody: This Judas in our midst!
Mrs. Carmody whips the congregation into a killing fury, urging them to sacrifice Jessup so that the creatures will leave the rest of them alone. The crowd gets riled up and fights break out. Jessup is repeatedly stabbed and thrown out of the store, where he is grabbed and devoured by a large praying mantis-like creature.
David and his group can only look on in horror as he tries to comfort Billy. Everyone eventually settles, and retire to rest for the night. The next morning, Ollie has secretly gathered supplies and the group prepares to flee.
When they go to retrieve the food, it's missing. There sits Carmody swigging on a jug of milk, she won't allow them to leave. Some of the more burly men of her followers circle around David's group, some of them hold knives, including Jim. Carmody demands Billy for their sacrifice to God.
