In Zion, Lock is in a Zion control center with Officer Wirtz (Genevieve O'Reilly), monitoring the digging status of the machines. A Tech comes in with an update.
TECH: Sir, we have confirmation from the Icarus. The first two ships are in position for the counter attack.
LOCK: Good. (to Wirtz) Any change?
WIRTZ: Looks like they hit some iron ore, here, to slow them down a little.
LOCK: How much?
WIRTZ: An hour, maybe.
LOCK: That will give them a little over nine hours
WIRTZ: Yes, sir.
Soren, Niobe, Morpheus and their crews are gathered with the Keymaker. He tells them what they must do.
KEYMAKER: There is a building. Inside this building there is a level where no elevator can go, and no stair can reach. This level is filled with doors. These doors lead to many places. Hidden places. But one door is special. One door leads to the Source.
As the Keymaker continues, Neo is distracted by a vision he has of the building - several fiery spheres erupt from the building glass. Trinity notices his distraction.
KEYMAKER: This building is protected by a very secure system. Every alarm triggers the bomb.
VECTOR: Bomb? Did he say bomb?
KEYMAKER: But like all systems, it has a weakness. The system is based on the rules of the building. One system built on another.
KEYMAKER: If one fails, so must the other.
NIOBE: No electricity, no alarms.
GHOST: You would have to take out a whole city block to kill the power to a building like that.
KEYMAKER: Not one. Twenty seven.
VECTOR: Twenty seven blocks?
As the Keymaker explains the layout, we see time jump images of the mission already in action, starting with Niobe staked out at a power facility.
KEYMAKER: There is a power station, it must be destroyed.
NIOBE: There must be some kind of fail-safe.
Time jump image: Soren and his team, Vector and Binary, traveling through an underground tunnel.
KEYMAKER: Yes, there is an emergency system. The core network of the grid must be accessed. The emergency system must be deactivated.
SOREN: Then what do you need us for? Neo could take them both out easier than we could.
KEYMAKER: There's no time.
KEYMAKER: Once the door is unprotected, the connection will be severed, but another connection must first be made.
Time jump image: Neo and his team, Morpheus and the Keymaker, taking position. The Keymaker is filing on a key while they wait.
GHOST: How long would that take?
KEYMAKER: Exactly 314 seconds.
SOREN: Just over five minutes.
KEYMAKER: That is the length and breadth of the window. Only The One can open the door, and only during that window can the door be opened.
NIOBE: How do you know all this?
KEYMAKER: I know because I must know. It is my purpose. It is the reason I am here. The same reason we are all here.
We momentarily cut to an unspecified time where Trinity joins Neo in their room.
TRINITY (grabs his hand): Neo, I know something's wrong. You don't have to tell me. I just want you to know that I'm here.
Time jump image: We see the team preparing to enter the Matrix, plugging in.
KEYMAKER: All must be done as one.
Time jump image: Link is holding the lucky necklace that Zee gave him, he shrugs and puts it on . . .
LINK (to himself): Can't hurt.
KEYMAKER: If one fails, all fail.
MORPHEUS: At midnight, there's a shift change in the security of both buildings. At midnight, we will strike.
Time jump image: At the building's security office . . .
GUARD 1: Hey! You count sheep at home.
GUARD 2: Why? I get paid to count them here.
The groggy guard has his feet propped up next to the video monitors where we see Soren's team moving through the building halls.
We see the Matrix Operator (Socratis Otto) for Soren's team, along with Axel (Leigh Whannell).
OPERATOR: Okay, they're inside.
AXEL: How much time?
OPERATOR: Twelve minutes.
Suddenly a proximity alarm blares. . .
AXEL: Oh shit!
Axel races to somewhere in the ship as Sentinels move in position. As he steps onto a walkway, our view is focused on a walkway joint that is rusted and about to break loose.
