John Carter Quotes

Tars Tarkas: When I saw you, I believed it was a sign... that something new can come into this world.

Matai Shang: We do not cause the destruction of a world, Captain Carter. We simply manage it. Feed off it, if you like.

John Carter: Stand behind me, this might get dangerous.
John Carter: Or maybe I ought to get behind you...
Dejah Thoris: You let me know when it gets dangerous.

Tars Tarkas: You are ugly, but you are beautiful. And you fight like a Thark!

Tal Hajus: We are strong, because we despise weakness! Let them be crushed, like unhatched eggs!

Matai Shang: Being a fool is a great luxury.
Sab Than: What are you?
Matai Shang: We serve the Goddess, and she has chosen you to receive this weapon. Do as we command and you will rule all of Barsoom, with none to defy you and nothing to stand in your way.

Dalton: You won't find a keyhole, thing only opens from the inside. He insisted, no embalming, no open coffin, no funeral. Well, you don't acquire the kind of wealth your uncle commanded by being like the rest of us, huh? Come, let's go inside.

Tardos Mors: I know that this is not the fate you'd have chosen for yourself, or for Helium. But choice is a luxury, even for a Jeddak of Barsoom. Even if in your heart...
Dejah Thoris: The heart is a luxury.
Tardos Mors: Steady.
Matai Shang: Remember, she is not the prize. The prize is Barsoom.

John Carter: I claim the right of challenge!
Tal Hajus: You have no right to challenge! You are not Thark!
Tars Tarkas: He is Thark! He is Dotar Sojat!
Sola: Dotar Sojat! Dotar Sojat! Dotar Sojat!

John Carter: The Jeddak of Zodanga means to quash Helium this very night, and if Helium falls, so does Barsoom. We must throw out the thought of old hatreds. Tharks did not cause this, but by Issus, Tharks will end it! We ride for Zodanga!

John Carter: John Carter of Earth.
John Carter: Yep. John Carter of Mars sounds much better.
[Carter turns to go back to Dejah, but a guard stops to him to thank him]
Humble Guard: Sire, I must express the deepest of gratitude for saving Helium. Please, the honor is mine.
Matai Shang: Fair enough, Earthman. Now it's your move.

Matai Shang: Increased strength and agility. Simple matter of gravitation and anatomy, one we ought to have foreseen.
John Carter: We?
Matai Shang: No apparent increase in intelligence. Still this will not do at all.
Matai Shang: Your kind of Earthmen projecting themselves over here, leaping about, causing all manner of disruption.
John Carter: You're a Thern.
Matai Shang: Therns are a myth.

Matai Shang: Ah. American.
John Carter: Who are you, sir?
Matai Shang: "Sir." Definitely from the South. The Carolinas? Virginia? It's Virginia, isn't it? Lovely place.
John Carter: Do you know it?
Matai Shang: Not as well as I should. But I will.

Detailed Synopsis & Screenshots Continued

As the wedding ceremony is starting Carter crashes in.

Dejah Thoris is thrilled to see him but it is too late as the signal had been cast.

Zodangans begin attacking the Heliumites, and once again Matai Shang and his blue ray seem unstoppable.

Suddenly a huge cruiser crashes in too, the Tharks have arrived to follow their leader. They join the Heliumite army and fight off the Zodangans.

Matai Shang manages to escape but Carter recovers the medallion.

With the immediate threat of Zodanga gone and now knowing where his heart is, Carter takes his wedding wing and asks Dejah to marry him. She agrees and both Helium and Thark rejoice.

That night Carter is restless and steps out of the room. He tosses the medallion far away.

As he passes by a guard, the guard reaches out and grabs him, morphing into Matai Shang right before Carter is sent back to the Arizona cave.

Carter wakens dusty and bearded; the Colonel is but a skeleton.

The Carter narrative continues, he realizes there must be Therns on earth and spends the next 10 years looking for another medallion. He appears to find something in the Orkneys.

He prepares a crypt on his estate so he can return to Mars and leave his body safe on earth.

Nephew Edgar is to be entrusted with keeping him safe because it is likely that the Therns are going to attack his body -- perhaps right at the moment when Edgar is reading the journal.

Horrified, Edgar runs to check the crypt, not knowing he is being followed. After a few tense seconds he figures out the password to enter and opens the door, but the crypt is empty.

A Thern appears and is about to move forward, but is shot dead. Edgar turns around to see Carter outside holding a gun.

Carter explains he took a drug that made it appear that he was dead, and Edgar realizes he was simply bait to draw out a Thern and enable Carter to obtain the medallion he needs to go back to Dejah Thoris. Carter corrects him, saying that Edgar is indeed going to play a very important role: the protection of Carter's body as he returns to his true home.

Taking the medallion from the dead Thern, Carter goes into the crypt, lies down and recites the phrase to return to... Barsoom!
