INT. PASSAGEWAY OUTSIDE INFIRMARY: Dallas starts to run for the companionway.

DALLAS: That crap's going to eat through the hull. That thing's going to eat through the God damn hull! Come on!

BRETT: What's goin' on?

INT. PASSAGEWAY - "B" DECK: Dallas wrenches an emergency lamp from a socket. Hurls himself down a companionway. The others follow.

A droplet of fluid is sizzling on the ceiling bulkhead. It oozes down. Drips to the deck. Continues to bubble. Then goes through the bulkhead. The crew charge down the companionway below.

DALLAS: Next deck.

INT. SECOND LEVEL - "C" DECK: The crew move cautiously down the passageway. Look up to the ceiling bulkhead.

PARKER: There it is. . . . . Don't get under it!

RIPLEY: It looks like it's stopping.

PARKER (to Brett): Take a look at this, man.

DALLAS: Brett, give me uh . . what, you got a pen, give it to me, quick. Come on, come on!

BRETT: Don't get any on your arm.

DALLAS: It stopped. I haven't seen anything like that except molecular acid.

BRETT: Must be using it for blood.

PARKER: It's got a wonderful defense mechanism. You don't dare kill it.

RIPLEY: What about Kane?

DALLAS: Here's your pen back.

BRETT: What do we do now?

DALLAS: Get back to work.

BRETT: Okay, try it. . . . Dammit, I thought sure that was it.

PARKER: Try it again.

BRETT: I feel I've been in this place a month.

PARKER: We shouldn't have landed in this place in the first place.

BRETT: Shouldn't have landed on this damn ball, I know that.

PARKER: Well, the sooner we pack this thing up and get out of here, the sooner we can go home. This place gives me the creeps.

INT. INFIRMARY: Kane still deep within a coma. The Alien's position unchanged.

Ash running test on the equipment. Kane respirating on the view screens above. All instruments recording his life processes. Ripley approaches.

RIPLEY: That's amazing, what is it?

ASH: Yes it is. I don't know yet. . . Did you want something?

Ash shuts off the monitor.

RIPLEY: Yes, I thought we'd have a little talk, how's Kane?

ASH: He's holding, not changing.

RIPLEY: And . . . our guest?

ASH: Well as I said I'm still collating actually. But I have confirmed he's got an outer layer of protein polysaccharides. He has a funny habit of shedding his cells and replacing them with polarized silicon, which gives him a prolonged resistance to adverse environmental conditions. Is that enough?

RIPLEY: That's plenty, what does it mean?

Ripley looks into the microscope.

ASH: Please don't do that.

RIPLEY: I'm sorry.

ASH: Well, it's an interesting combination of elements making him a tough little son of a bitch.

RIPLEY: And you let him in.

ASH: I was obeying a direct order, remember?

RIPLEY: Ash, when Dallas and Kane are off the ship, I'm senior officer.

ASH: Oh yes, I forgot.

RIPLEY: You also forgot the science division's basic quarantine law.

ASH: No, that I didn't forget.

RIPLEY: Oh I see, you just broke it, huh?

ASH: Look, what would you have done with Kane, huh? You know his only chance to survive was to get him in here

RIPLEY: Unfortunately, by breaking quarantine, you risked everybody's life.

ASH: Maybe I should have left him outside. Maybe I've jeopardized the rest of us. . . It was a risk I was willing to take.

RIPLEY: That's a pretty big risk for a science officer. Not exactly out of the manual, is it?

ASH: I do take my responsibilities as seriously as you. You do your job and let me do mine, yes?

Ripley stands...looks at Ash. Walks out.

LAMBERT (voice over): Where's Dallas?

KANE (voice over): In the shuttle.

INT. NARCISSUS: Dallas listening to music. Beep. An interruption on the communicator.

DALLAS: Dallas.

ASH: I think you should have a look at Kane.

ASH: Something's happened.

DALLAS: Serious?

ASH: Interesting.

Dallas turns off the music and flips a switch on the intercom.

DALLAS: Ripley, meet me in the infirmary right away.

INT. INFIRMARY: Kane's prone form. The Alien is no longer on his face. Kane still unconscious, but continues to breathe. Face covered with sucker marks. Ash stares through window. Dallas joins him. Ripley appears behind. A long pause. They enter cautiously.

RIPLEY: Where is it?

ASH: I don't know.

Dallas begins moving slowly around the room. Looking.
