In today's CG laden cinema world, practical effects are becoming an endangered species. Thanks to the stellar classics such as 2001: ASO, Alien, Blade Runner and John Carpenter's The Thing, our beloved cinema art form is still alive and well within these film universes. Time takes it toll even on the classic practical effects and there are some instances where they appear dated, but that isn't necessarily true across the board.
While The Thing 1982 has a few isolated examples of practical effects that didn't age well, a significant amount of its visuals are still quite impressive and I would argue that they are equal to, and possibly superior over numerous CG packed films today. Here's a pictorial highlighting the best of The Thing 1982 practical effects, enjoy!
