KELVIN MED-EVAC SHUTTLE

A medical shuttle was a shuttlecraft, equipped with specialized technology and equipment designed to deal with possible medical emergencies, carried aboard Federation starships in the early 23rd century.

In the alternate reality created by Nero's temporal incursion in 2233, Winona Kirk, mother of James Tiberius Kirk, was evacuated from the USS Kelvin in a Kelvin-type medical shuttle when the ship came under attack by the Narada.

Winona gave birth to James aboard the shuttle as it was fleeing the area. The medical shuttles were designed by John Eaves.

The Turbo-life descends to the Engine Room, the doors open and Captain Robau gets out, moves quickly, hurries down a shuttle bay catwalk. Robau enters a shuttle, lights blink to life. He moves to the cockpit, starts the vehicle up. A loud hiss and the craft shudders as it disembarks.

Robau commandeers the shuttle to the Narada while the crew of the Kelvin monitors him. Robau remains steely-eyed as he moves for the darkened ship. Robau watches as he gets closer, the small shuttle seems to get swallowed up by the massive forward-facing spires of the Narada. A gigantic iris door turns, slowly open and the shuttle enters the Narada's main hangar, the door closes. Robau faces the shuttle door, considering his fate. He exits the shuttle.

In the Kelvin Bridge, the monitor reveal Robau's heartbeat quickens. Everyone is just motionless and silent. Only Robau's vital signs can be heard, beeping away. George, now in the captain's chair of the Kelvin, his eyes glued ahead. Sparks dripping from the ceiling, everyone is motionless, eyes on the monitors.

In the Narada, Robau is led into the enormous, dark bridge. Romulans are at controls. Robau does his level best to portray confidence as he is led up a walkway to Ayel. Ayel touches a panel, then throws an image into the air before Robau.

A rotating hologram of a unique-looking spacecraft (we will refer to it as the Jellyfish). Ayel interrogates him first about the displayed ship. Robau considers the hologram and what his answer might mean for the fate of his crew. Robau responds he does not recognize it.

Behind him, sitting motionless, looking off, is his captain. A presence always felt in this scene. This is Nero. Nero sits in the background, saying nothing. Ayel throws another hologram, a floating, rotating image of Ambassador Spock, who appears to be 75 earth-years old. Robau reponds he is not familiar with Spock. A final question. What is the current stardate? Puzzled, Robau responds it's 2233.04 and wants to know where they are from.

Suddenly . . . TSCHING! Nero's activated his staff, four large, horrifying blades appear at the tip, a teral'n. Nero springs to life and charges Robau with a roar. Robau is impaled with the pronged blade weapon.

BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE... Robau's vitals go dead. Close up of Kirk as a screaming alarm is heard. His crew shouts out they are launching again.

Kirk orders the Kelvin to open fire. The Kelvin banks as it fires wildly, another torpedo blasting from the Narada, it separates, some miss, others hit. Debris flies through the ceiling, slamming into a bridge support beam. Coolant spews from under the floor grating. As the situation worsens and he realizes that the damage to the Kelvin is compromising the lives and safety of everyone aboard, he orders the crew to escape pods and shuttles.

Including his wife Winona, who is about to give birth. At the Medical Bay entrance, nurses are hurriedly pushing patients in their wheel chairs, including Winona. A nurse explains to her that they are moving to the shuttle. Alone now on the bridge, piloting this massive craft by himself.

George talks to Winona from the bridge, instructing her he has medical shuttle 37 standing by and assures her he's on his way. She tells him the baby is coming. His heart shattering, having to out-maneuver incoming torpedoes, piloting the ship to its doom -- still, he forces optimism. The Kelvin banks again, its photons slamming into the oncoming Narada torpedoes, just avoiding the impact.
