Two Mecca sentry guards watch pilot ships zip by at low altitude, snaking their way between buildings. Imam, the Holy man Riddick saved when they were marooned on the barren planet (Pitch Black 2000), is walking through the busy passageways of Mecca, exchanging greetings with passerbys.

As he works his way through the crowd he overhears the clamor regarding the mysterious conquerors: Half my street is gone. . . What are we gonna do? I don't know. . . Hood of the devil. That's what someone called them. Them? Who is them? Some kind of new creature. . . It's all nonsense. . . So tall that it touches the clouds. And there's nothing around this statue, this colossus. Nothing left. . . It's their calling card.

Imam enters his home, Riddick is there waiting for him. Holding a knife to Imam's throat, he listens to Imam's excuse that he had no choice to betray him due to the threat of invasion. Imam's daughter, Ziza, appears, calling to Riddick. A moment later, Imam's wife, Lajjun, appears also . . . startled to see Riddick. Both the mother and the daughter seem to know who Riddick is, such are their bedtime stories of killing monsters to save Imam. Riddick, "Now who do I have to kill to get this payday off my head?"

Imam is looking up at the night sky, a comet with a scattered glowing tail dominates the view. He tells Riddick these comets always proceed these world enders. The Coalsack planets are gone. Eight million settlers missing. The entire Aquilan System is gone too. Helion Prime shares its sunlight with all worlds nearby. If Helion Prime falls, they fall. Riddick, "You said it's all circling the drain . . . the whole universe. . . . . Had to end sometime."

Later in Imam's home, they are joined by Aereon, an envoy from the Elemental race, along with three dark robed clerics. Air Elementals are capable of seeing into the future in some limited way. The clerics arrive first, Riddick gives them the once over. Then, like a mist, a ghost, Aereon materializes from vapor. Riddick detects her presence, with instant speed, he's holding his knife to the throat of Aereon, who is now in full view. She warns him that if he cuts her throat, she will not be able to rescend the offer that brought him here.

Aereon tells him why it was vital for him to arrive. Necromongers, it is the name that will convert or kill every last human life, unless the universe can rebalance itself. Balance is everything to Elementals. Water to fire. Earth to air. But now they have only time to speak of the balance of opposites.

Imam explains to Riddick there is a story of young male Furyans strangled at birth. Strangled with their own cords. When Aereon told this story to the Helion leaders, Imam told her of Riddick.

They quiz him with a series of questions. What does he know of his early years. Does he remember his home world, where it was. Has he met any others like himself. Riddick, "Sister, they don't know what to do with just one of me."

Suddenly their attention is turned to a pounding at the door, several Mecca soldiers. They are searching houses looking for a spy. Imam pleads to Riddick to not flee, he will send them away. Wait one minute to save worlds. Riddick, "Not my fight." But Imam plays on his guilt, abandon them as he abandoned Jack.

Then the door crashes open, the soldiers pour through, dragging Imam's family out into the street. They search the house, heading upstairs, checking rooms. Riddick has remained, he's in a room behind closed doors. They open the door, Riddick is standing in the center of the room his back to the soldiers, hands up in the air just above two lit candles. Riddick, "You're not afraid of the dark, are you? He snuffs the candles out with his hands.

Darkness envelopes the room, except for his glowing eyes. All hell breaks loose, gunfire blasting away into the dark. Riddick takes them out one at a time. Gun flash lights the room like a strobe light. Then there were none after he kicks the last soldier through the door. A young soldier is holding a knife on Imam. Hearing the carnage and seeing Riddick, the soldier trembles with fear, dropping his knife and flees.

Imam tells Riddick that his friend Jack, is in prison on Crematoria, a very hot planet. Apparently, Jack went looking for Riddick and deaths occurred, landing her in the distant prison.
